Internship Overview
Through the WorkEx program, Spanaway Fitness offers transitioning service members a structured, hands-on internship experience in general management. This opportunity is ideal for those looking to gain real-world knowledge in small business operations, team leadership, customer service, and the business side of the health and fitness industry. Interns will work directly with the owner and leadership team, gaining firsthand exposure to the challenges and rewards of running a fitness facility.
Responsibilities
Interns will be involved in all aspects of gym operations, including front desk service, scheduling, membership management, and customer relations. They will assist in developing marketing strategies, managing social media, coordinating community events, and maintaining vendor and supplier relationships. The role also includes exposure to business planning, budgeting, staff coordination, and facility upkeep. Interns are encouraged to bring their leadership skills, initiative, and mission-first mindset to help drive gym growth and member satisfaction.
Skills & Experience Gained
This internship will equip service members with a civilian perspective on leadership, operations, customer service, and entrepreneurship. You’ll gain valuable experience in general business administration, marketing, and communication. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to apply your military strengths in a fast-paced, team-driven civilian environment with room to grow.
Ideal Candidate
This internship is a great fit for service members from any MOS who are self-motivated, team-oriented, and passionate about health and wellness. A background in logistics, administration, operations, or leadership roles in the military is beneficial but not required. No prior fitness industry experience is needed — just a willingness to learn, contribute, and grow.
