Health Care

Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program (MIHP) Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)

For the past three years, the North Mason Regional Fire Authority (NMRFA) has
operated a Mobile Integrated Health Program (MIHP) in North Mason County. The MIHP, the first and only of its kind currently operating in Washington State, has been recognized in the Seattle Times for its innovative approach to healthcare.

Our program is redefining how medicine is delivered in rural communities by
pairing traditional emergency response with proactive, patient-centered care.
The North Mason MIHP team includes an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, a nurse, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and a community resource specialist. Together with paramedics and EMTs from our 911 emergency system, they provide mobile medical care directly in the community. The program is guided by four goals:
1.Expanding access to medical care
2.Reducing non-emergency 911 utilization
3.Decreasing healthcare costs
4.Improving patient outcomes

Because of the MIHP’s proven success, the NMRFA and community partners have expanded the program. In March, we launched a second MIHP team, based in Kamilche (just south of Shelton), serving the southern and central parts of Mason County. We are seeking a Physician Associate (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to serve as the cornerstone provider for the South Mason County MIHP.

The Opportunity
This is a trailblazing role. You will: Redefine rural healthcare delivery by practicing without the constraints of high-volume clinics. Collaborate closely with emergency services and advanced medical providers to improve outcomes for patients across Mason County. Manage a small, intentionally limited patient panel (6–8 patients daily), allowing for meaningful, holistic care. Spend as much time with patients as needed — hours or even consecutive visits — free from traditional productivity metrics or time limits. Work in a supportive, well resourced environment that values innovation, teamwork, and patient well-being above all else.

About the Role
Location: Based in the Kamilche/Shelton area, serving southern and central
Mason County.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday.

Team Support: You will be joined by a nurse, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner,
and community resource specialist, while collaborating closely with our
established the North Mason MIHP team.

Employment: Medical providers are employed and insured by NMRFA.
Physician Associates will practice under the licensure of a Mason County
emergency room physician.

What We’re Looking For
We seek a provider who is:
Excited to build and grow a rural healthcare program from the ground up.
Ready to challenge the status quo of medicine delivery. Comfortable practicing the full scope of their license in diverse, field-based environments. Passionate about holistic, patient-centered care and committed to improving health outcomes.

If you are looking for an opportunity to practice medicine differently — to spend
more time with patients, innovate in care delivery, and make a lasting impact in
a rural community — we invite you to join us. Feel free to visit and connect with
our MIHP team members before applying. An informal connection and
conversation by prospective providers before submitting an application and
resume is encouraged. We want to be sure that this position is the right fit for you. Reach out to Fire Chief Beau Bakken at [email protected] to connect.

The Healthcare Operations & Research Strategy Fellowship

The Healthcare Operations & Research Strategy Fellowship is a structured 60-day executive internship designed for senior military healthcare leaders transitioning to civilian careers in healthcare consulting, health systems management, and applied research. The program provides hands-on experience in healthcare operations analysis, business strategy, workforce optimization, and applied data interpretation within a civilian consulting environment.

Training Specifics:

The Healthcare Operations and Research Strategy Fellowship is a 60-day executive internship providing senior military healthcare leaders hands-on experience in civilian business strategy, financial modeling, and client-facing consulting. Conducted by Kindling Point Insights, LLC (KPI), the program bridges military healthcare leadership with private-sector practices in market analysis, cost optimization, and data-driven decision support.

In Phase I, participants complete onboarding in KPI’s consulting framework, learning project lifecycle, client communication, and ethics in business development. They gain familiarity with proposal workflows, budget modeling, and analytic tools such as Power BI and CRM platforms.

Phase II focuses on healthcare operations analytics—translating performance data into financial insights, ROI, and process redesign proposals. Participants will assist in developing a business case and value-proposition summary for an active client engagement.

Phase III emphasizes market intelligence and proposal strategy. Fellows will conduct targeted competitor and payer analyses, assist in pricing models, and support grant or RFP responses to understand the consulting sales cycle.

In Phase IV, participants deliver a capstone project that synthesizes financial, operational, and strategic findings into an executive presentation, simulating client delivery within a consulting environment.

Entry requires clinical leadership, EBP, and data literacy. The internship develops new KSAs in market analytics, business finance, proposal strategy, and client engagement. Learning outcomes are assessed through deliverable quality, mentor feedback, and a final presentation scored against clarity, business logic, and value impact. Mentorship by KPI’s HR Director and CEO ensures executive-level exposure to business development, contracting strategy, and healthcare market economics—skills extending beyond prior government and academic domains.

Learning outcomes are evaluated through observation, deliverable reviews, and feedback sessions, including a 30-day progress review and final evaluation. Performance is measured by analytic accuracy, collaboration, communication, and quality of the capstone project. Mentorship is provided by KPI’s Chief Executive Officer, ensuring executive-level coaching and practical experience.

The internship is unpaid, and is developed to support a smooth transition from military healthcare leadership to success in civilian healthcare and consulting environments.

Interns will directly contribute to client engagements, assist in proposal and project development, and gain exposure to the financial, regulatory, and data-analytic frameworks used in private healthcare operations.
